George Bailey was an architecture pupil of Sir John Soane, joining the Soane office in August 1806, staying until Soane’s death in 1837. At its peak of productivity, six students worked in the Drawing Office, twelve hours a day, six days a week. Soane retired from practice in 1833, retaining two assistants, the talented draughtsman George Bailey and Charles James Richardson. After Soane’s death, Bailey became the first curator of Sir John Soanes’s Museum.
